New Mercedes-AMG A 45 S Will Get Up To 415-Horsepower

The regular 45s, the A, CLA, GLA and GLB will make do with only 382-horsepower. The 45 S’ engine will be the most powerful of its kind.

We now have the final numbers. The highly and hotly anticipated Mercedes-AMG A 45 S’ turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine will produce 415-horsepower at 6,750 rpm will peak torque of 369 lb.-ft. will land at 5,000 rpm. The goal was to deliver a more “normally-aspirated” driving experience which, by judging these numbers, AMG has managed it.

About AMG, up until now, the only true AMG engines were those built with the “one man, one engine” philosophy. For the first time, a 4-cylinder engine will abide by this sacred rules and thus earn a plaque.

The other big news is that the engine is profoundly new, sharing very few components with the outgoing unit. The build process is heavily automated with part trolleys showing up alongside the builder. Step by step, they deliver and monitor every action and part installation.

We learned a few months ago that the AMG A 35 was going to be served by 302-horsepower, more than enough to get every fan salivating.  How much faster will this 415-horsepower A 45 be? We can’t wait to find out.
