North America is still a year away from seeing its first new Golf R.
As we know it, this will be the last Golf R ever.
As we all know by now, Volkswagen has committed future automotive development entirely to electric vehicles. But before they put the final nail on the ICE’s coffin, they’ve made sure that these last petrol- and diesel-powered cars will be impressive. This is certainly the case with the all-new Golf R.
Canada and the US will only get the R version of the all-new 8th generation Volkswagen Golf sometime in the 4th quarter of 2021 but we already have all the details, or nearly. Specifically, we’re still months away from pricing however we’ve been told that despite the numerous improvements made to the Golf R, it won’t be that much more expensive than the beloved MK7 R.
According to the specs provided by Volkswagen, the Golf R, with the available 7-speed DSG, hits 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. As quick as that seems, Automann-TV has had the privilege of driving the new car already and put it through its paces. On 19-inch winter tires and on a cold and damp road, they managed a 4.4-second sprint time. This is seriously fast. And it might even be faster…
