New Mustang-Like Electric Ford SUV Could End Up Looking Like This

Recent rendering gives us an idea of what a Ford electric SUV could look like when it arrives in 2020.

Ford is hard at work building an electric sport utility vehicle that the American automaker says will be inspired by the Ford Mustang. Mustang and electric vehicles don’t usually go hand in hand. Add an SUV body to the mix and you get a weird image in your head. This rendering by Kolesa has “weird” pegged.

It’s not ugly, but we can’t say it looks very good either. It’s a sort of wagon Mustang with body cladding, high ground clearance and very narrow windows. We see the child of a Maserati Levante and a Ford Mustang. We can’t imagine the end result for the Ford Mustang-based Ford electric SUV will look like this although it does get our imagination going.

Ford has remained mum on what exactly we can expect from their fully-electric sport utility vehicle, but they have certainly been pushing the performance part of it. Just putting the Mustang name in the project tells you what you need know about the personality Ford hopes to develop in its first full electric vehicle since the Ford Focus Electric.

The model is expected to compete with the Tesla Model Y when it goes on sale in 2020. It could also eventually compete with the Audi Q4 e-tron and whatever Mercedes-Benz has planned after the EQC.
