Blissfully, front kidney grille is “normal-sized.”
Unlike the 2 Series Gran Coupé, this 2 Series Coupé will be RWD.
BMW design is evolving and for the most part, the current generations of its products are some of the best of this Century so far. If you’ve been following the latest design evolutions, you’ll have noticed the ongoing oversized kidney grille debate. While it may work on the BMW X7, it’s not done so well in various images of the upcoming BMW 4 Series. Thankfully, these photos of what seems to be the new BMW 2 Series Coupé tell us that the car’s managed to avoid said grille.
These pictures were taken by Wilco Block and shared on Instagram. The front-end image does depict a small car with a busy fascia despite the absence of the giant grille expected on the next 4 Series. The headlight cut-outs, the massive lower-side air intakes, and “V” shaped front bumper are loads to take in. In fact, we can almost see giant kidneys being fitted in the V’s opening in a future facelift…
The rear-end shot is just as visually impactful. The highlight is the integrated rear spoiler but the taillights seem proportionally gargantuan we’re not fans of the trapezoidal tailpipes. Despite the sometimes off-putting details, the car will surely drive as well as the previous 2 Series as RWD should still be the name of the game, unlike the Gran Coupé which is FWD in some markets, AWD in ours.
BMW has previously confirmed that the 2 Series Coupé will return with an M2 variant in the future as well.
