GM is evaluating a next-generation Cadillac XT6 for North America.
XT6 could return on an updated GM C1 platform.
Production may take place at Spring Hill Assembly in Tennessee.
General Motors is considering bringing the Cadillac XT6 back to its North American lineup, according to reports citing sources familiar with the company’s product planning. If approved, the three-row luxury crossover would return as an all-new generation after production of the current model ended following the 2025 model year.
The original XT6 debuted in 2019 as a 2020 model and served as Cadillac’s gasoline-powered three-row crossover positioned beneath the Escalade. Weaker-than-expected sales and a focus on EVs put an end to the model, though its departure left the brand without an internal-combustion utility vehicle in the popular segment.
A next-generation XT6 is reportedly being considered to close that gap. While Cadillac now offers the all-electric Vistiq as a three-row utility vehicle, the brand believes that it needs to return to the table with a comparable gasoline-powered crossover for customers not ready to transition to EVs.
Sources indicate GM is approaching a decision on whether to authorize development of the vehicle. If approved, the next XT6 would follow the same development path as the upcoming Cadillac XT5 (and next-gen Blazer) and continue to use an updated version of GM’s C1 crossover architecture.
Production is expected to take place at GM’s Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee, where the XT5 and Chevrolet Blazer are also built. Spring Hill has long served as a key manufacturing site for Cadillac crossovers.
2026 Cadillac Vistiq Review: Style, Power, and a Few Head-Scratchers
Powertrain plans have not been finalized. Although the previous XT6 was offered exclusively with gasoline engines in North America, GM has announced plans to offer plug-in hybrid vehicles in the coming years. This strategy raises the possibility that the future XT6 could be available with conventional internal-combustion power, a plug-in hybrid system, or both, though no configuration has been confirmed.
Other premium automakers continue to find success in the segment. A returning XT6 would join the Acura MDX, Audi Q7, and Infiniti QX60, to name a few.
General Motors has not confirmed plans for a next-generation XT6 and, consistent with company policy, has declined to comment on future products under development.
