NHTSA Launches Investigation Into 232,000 2020 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Transport Canada’s counterpart, announced last Saturday (October 25) that it had opened an investigation into 232,209 2020 Jeep Gladiators and Wranglers due to a potential problem with the instrument panel cluster (IPC).

  • At this time, this is not a recall, but an investigation

  • 2020 was the first year of the current Jeep Gladiator

  • The issue may cause the vehicle’s speed not to be displayed

The display may not show all the necessary driving data, such as vehicle speed, fuel gauge, and warning lights.

The agency said it had received 89 complaints of total or partial loss of information display on the dashboard while the vehicle was in motion.

Obviously, owners can drive their models without this information, but authorities have to play it safe. For example, with a fuel gauge that doesn’t display any info, running out of gas becomes increasingly likely, and if this happens while the vehicle is traveling on a highway, it can be dangerous.

Note that there is no recall at this time. The identified models are those of the US market. If the detected problem leads to a large recall, of course, Canadian versions of the 2020 Jeep Gladiators and Wranglers will be included.

We will be watching this issue closely.
