710 hp racecar powered GT-R sendoff
Limited to just 20, says report
Forget the Nissan Z Proto, there is finally another GT-R coming! Oh, wait, that’s a final edition of the R35 car, set to offer even more power thanks to a version of the GT3 racing car’s engine.
The Nissan GT-R is one of the oldest cars on sale today (along with the 370Z), but unlike the Z, Nissan has done a good job of keeping the car fresh by making it faster. And this one, the GT-R Final Edition, which bestcarweb says will arrive in 2022, will be the fastest of all.
Saying farewell with a 710 hp sendoff from the 3.8L Turbocharged V6, built by hand and based on the engine that runs in the GT-R GT3-class racing cars. That sounds like the engine used in the million-dollar GT-R50 from Italdesign that restyled the car in addition to all of the extra power. It’s 110 hp more than the Nismo and Track Edition cars, and if it’s the same mill, expect 575 lb-ft, up 94 over those cars.
The report is short on details, but we’d expect the R50’s upgraded brakes and the reinforced gearbox. The cost of this one is set at around 40 million yen, which works out to just shy of $500,000 over here.
Bestcarweb says that Nissan will build just 20 of these, the “true final model” of the current car, set to go on sale in 2022. As for the next car, that would make it seem likely the R36 GT-R could show up in 2023. Then again, we don’t have official confirmation of a GT-R replacement, so we’ll have to wait and see.
