- The 2021 Nissan Frontier will mark a new generation for the pickup;
- It will be completely revised compared to the current generation;
- Will arrive sometime in 2021.
The Nissan Frontier is one of the oldest models for sale currently on the North American market. The current generation was introduced in 2004 with a slight facelift was introduced in the 2009 model year.
This could all change soon. According to Autoblog, Nissan has big plans in store for its midsize pickup. Indeed, the American publication reports that Nissan is currently working on the Frontier’s next-generation and it could arrive as soon as the 2021 model year.
This is good news for Nissan considering the competition is fierce in the midsize pickup segment with the Toyota Tacoma that is boasting a facelift this year, the recently introduced Ford Ranger the upcoming overhaul of the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado later this year.
Autoblog reports that the 2021 Nissan Frontier will be completely new from head to toe with next to no design elements staying from the current generation. Autoblog’s sources are also saying the design of the new Frontier will be closer to the squareness of the all-new Nissan Titan.
The 2021 Frontier is also getting a new powertrain we learned. The current 4.0-litre engine is out and replaced with a new 3.8-litre naturally aspirated V6 mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, says Autoblog.
Now, we still don’t know if the next-generation Frontier will use the more modern Nissan Navara platform like previously reported or a shortened and modified Titan underpinning. We will have to wait until its unveiling.
Sources tell the American publication the all-new Nissan Frontier will hit showrooms as late as February 2021. With that being said, if this all pans out, we should see the 2021 Nissan Frontier at an auto show this year. Which one? Your guess is as good as mine.
