Nissan unveils the 2026 Rogue Plug-In Hybrid. Yes, it’s a Mitsubishi Outlander wearing a Nissan badge

Nissan has just revealed a highly anticipated addition to its lineup: the 2026 Nissan Rogue PHEV. Let’s not pretend otherwise: this model is clearly the result of the alliance with Mitsubishi, as the Rogue is essentially a rebadged Outlander PHEV.

  • This Rogue is entirely derived from the Mitsubishi Outlander
  • It offers a claimed 61 kilometres of electric range
  • It will be officially presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week

The 2026 Nissan Rogue Plug-In Hybrid has now been unveiled, officially bringing PHEV technology into the brand’s Canadian lineup. According to Nissan, it will deliver up to 61 km of electric range for daily commuting, along with a combined range of up to 687 km when using hybrid mode. In theory, it promises the everyday simplicity of electric driving without giving up the peace of mind that comes with gasoline power for longer trips.

The model will make its first public appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show, held from November 21 to 30, 2025.

2026 Nissan Rogue PHEV

“The Rogue Plug-In Hybrid represents a key milestone in our electrification plan. It enables fully electric driving for day-to-day use while preserving the long-range advantage of a gasoline engine. This combination highlights Nissan’s commitment to offering solutions aligned with customers’ real needs, bringing together the strengths of a traditional SUV and an electric vehicle in one package,” explained Ponz Pandikuthira, senior vice-president and chief product officer, Nissan Americas. “The arrival of our first PHEV in Canada and the United States fits within the Re:Nissan strategy, which aims to reinvigorate the lineup and expand our presence in new segments.”

Copy-and-paste from Mitsubishi

Nissan did not bother restyling the vehicle through its design team. With only a few minor differences, it is nearly identical to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. In fact, the only distinctions are the upper grille design, the wheel styling and a black trim piece between the taillights. Everything else is 100% Mitsubishi.

This product stems from the long-standing Alliance between Nissan, Mitsubishi and Renault, an Alliance Nissan recently announced it would be stepping away from. As a result, the Rogue Plug-In Hybrid may not remain on the market for very long.

A complete and easy-to-use technology package

The Rogue Plug-In Hybrid integrates Nissan’s latest connected technologies, including a 9-inch touchscreen compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. A 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 10-inch head-up display bring the Rogue into the digital age. A nine-speaker Bose audio system also comes standard.

Just like the Outlander, the Rogue PHEV offers three rows of seating for up to seven occupants. The second row slides and reclines, making access to the third row easier. Rear doors open to 70 degrees, simplifying child-seat installation and entry for young passengers.

However, it must be said that the additional seats in the cargo area are extremely limited in space and really only suitable for short trips.

In terms of cargo capacity, when equipped with the moonroof, volume ranges from
362 litres behind the third row,872 litres with the third row folded and 1,832 litres with the second row folded.

Comprehensive safety equipment as standard

Along with 11 airbags, Nissan Safety Shield 360 comes standard and includes Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Automatic Braking.

The Intelligent Around View Monitor is also included, providing a 360-degree view around the vehicle and adding Moving Object Detection. The vehicle also features Intelligent Cruise Control and ProPILOT Assist to support the driver with steering, braking and acceleration.

A first plug-in hybrid powertrain

The Rogue PHEV’s powertrain consists of two electric motors, a 20-kWh lithium-ion battery and a 2.4-litre gasoline engine. The system produces 248 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, offering quicker acceleration than the gasoline-powered Rogue. Intelligent All-Wheel Drive is standard. The setup is designed to deliver smooth power and efficiency in all conditions. The fully electric mode provides quiet, efficient driving, while the hybrid mode allows for longer trips when needed.

Drivers can choose between EV, Save and Charge energy-management modes depending on their needs. Two levels of regenerative braking are available via Drive (D) or Brake (B) mode, and the e-Step function enables near one-pedal driving.

Seven drive modes complete the offering: Normal, Power, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow and Mud, adapting the response of the powertrain and AWD system in real time.

Estimated fuel consumption is 3.6 L/100 km, with up to 61 km of electric range and 687 km of total range.

How much will the Nissan Rogue Plug-In Hybrid cost?

The Rogue Plug-In Hybrid will be sold exclusively in a well-equipped Platinum trim, with Canadian dealership arrivals expected in early 2026. Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but buyers can expect a figure around $60,000.
