2025 Nissan Sentra Overview

2025 Nissan Sentra

The 2025 Nissan Sentra competes in the small car segment and represents the fifth model year for the nameplate’s eight generation.

Once again, it’s available in four-door sedan configuration, with one powertrain option and several trim levels. The compact Sentra is positioned above the subcompact Versa in the brand’s Canadian lineup.

2025 Nissan Sentra Changes and Updates

A mid-cycle refresh arrived for the 2024 model year that included a revised front fascia and new alloy wheel designs, while the SR trim level also received a styling update to the rear fascia and new interior upholstery stitching. Meanwhile, automatic stop/start was added to improve fuel economy and the car got an improved transmission as well.

For the 2025 model year, the SR Midnight Edition is added to the lineup, which benefits from black alloy wheels, a black trunklid spoiler and badging.

2025 Nissan Trim Levels and Pricing

In Canada, the Sentra is offered in S, S Plus, SV, SV Moonroof, SR, SR Midnight Edition and SR Premium trim levels. Each one is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.0L inline-four that develops 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. The S and SR trims also include a six-speed manual transmission, while the rest of the lineup gets a continuously variable automatic.

What the 2025 Nissan Sentra Does Well

  • The Sentra offers a comfortable and quiet ride.
  • Nissan’s compact sedan boasts an attractive design that helps out stand out in the segment. The SR trim levels’ appearance can also be spruced up with a black-painted roof.
  • The S and S Plus trim levels offer many comfort, convenience and active safety items as standard, such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear park sonar, heated outside mirrors, keyless entry, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen as well as Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The SV and SV Moonroof get adaptive cruise control, 16-inch alloy wheels, an eight-inch touchscreen, SiriusXM satellite radio compatibility (subscription required), dual-zone climate control and an intelligent key system. The SR variants step up to richer seat upholstery, 18-inch wheels and a heated steering wheel, while a 360-degree camera system and leather seating are also available. So, good bang for the buck.
  • The Sentra with the automatic transmission is a fuel miser, boasting a combined rating of 6.6 L/100 km. Among rivals with non-hybrid powertrains, only the base Hyundai Elantra trim level can do better (6.5 L/100 km).
  • Cabin ergonomics are pretty good, with a straightforward array of wheel-mounted and centre stack switchgear. The infotainment system interface isn’t the most modern or the quickest, but it works well nonetheless.

What the 2025 Nissan Sentra Doesn’t Do Well

  • As mentioned above, Nissan doesn’t offer a hybrid powertrain like the Honda Civic, the Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla. The latter can also be equipped with AWD, but the Sentra can’t.
  • While there’s sufficient space front and rear, the Sentra’s low roofline means front-seat occupants might feel cramped with the headliner so close to their forehead. And when a car’s windshield is as raked as the Sentra’s, the sacrifice for aerodynamics is rather large front pillars that create blind spots, especially when we’re driving through busy city intersections.
  • The Sentra’s fit and finish is average. There’s a substantial panel gap between the car’s nose and the hood, while there are some cheap materials to be found in the cabin, though they’re generally well hidden. Simply put, step out of a Mazda3 and step into a Sentra, and the difference becomes immediately obvious.
  • It’s manageable, but the Nissan sedan’s 11.6-metre turning circle is wide for a compact sedan. That slightly complicates parking manoeuvres at the shopping mall.
  • There are many trim levels and available features, but the Sentra lineup currently lacks a performance-focused variant with a more powerful engine to rival the Civic Honda Si, the Hyundai Elantra N Line, the Kia K4 GT-Line Turbo and the Volkswagen Jetta GLI. We know that most compact-car buyers choose the mid-range trim levels, but still, a little more character wouldn’t hurt the Sentra. The SR is sporty in appearance only.
