Multiple sources say 450 hp for 2024 Mustang GT
Ford still planning 500 hp Dark Horse model
The next-generation 2024 Ford Mustang is coming soon, but it’s not going to make any more power than before. That’s according to a new report that says the 5.0L Coyote V8 will have the same output it did in the S550 Mustang.
The report comes from Ford Authority. Earlier this week, the site cited sources “familiar with the matter” as pegging the pony car at 450 hp. Today the site has a window sticker for a 2024 Ford Mustang GT coupe that shows the same 450 hp number.
It’s actually 10 hp less than the GT used to make. The V8 Ford Mustang made 460 hp and 420 lb-ft in 2021, and the figure was cut by 10 for 2022.
The new Dark Horse Mustang, which Ford introduced as a road-going race car Mustang is still targeting 500 horses. It’s the GT models that aren’t expected to see a difference.
Ford is planning a summer 2023 launch for the 2024 Mustang. Since that’s a long time from now and Ford was no doubt aware that this sticker could end up on the internet, it’s entirely possible that the figure is going to change. Or is it entirely a red herring? But with multiple sources confirming the figure, that is seeming less and less likely.
It’s probably ok, though. Nobody does slightly more powerful special editions like Ford and Mustang. And if they don’t, the aftermarket is always just a few clicks away.
