It is made from 93% recycled or renewable materials.
Nokian’s goal is to make tires from 50% of all its tires from recycled or renewable materials by 2030.
Nokian Tires is paving the way for a better future for all by focusing on what it does best: develop and create some of the best tires in the world. As tires are a necessity, Nokian is intent on creating the most sustainable and therefore green tires possible. They just introduced the Green Step tire concept.
What’s incredible about the Green Step winter tire concept is that 93% of all ingredients used in making the tire are sourced from either recycled or renewable materials. All the rubber is natural while the majority of oils, as well as the plasticizer, resin, and processing aids, come from renewable resources. Even the carbon black and the steel belts and bead wires in the tire’s structure are mainly taken from end-of-life tires.
“Drivers are more and more interested in the sustainability of their tires, and this creates demand for us to create tires for these standards. It also puts pressure on the industry to develop more eco-friendly materials, as well as for tire manufacturing technology to adapt to these materials. With a concept tire like the Green Step, we can push the limits. It’s a win-win for all, but especially for the environment,” says Development Manager Jouko Ilomäki from Nokian Tyres.
Although it was only last year that Nokian Tires announced its plans to make tires from 50% of all its tires from recycled or renewable materials by 2030, the Green Step tire concept is the result of decades of research and development. Given their current achievement and developing tire technologies, Nokian is convinced they will deliver on their promise.
