Volkswagen announced the name of the all-electric compact crossover being built for North America, the ID.4.
Last month, we were reporting that Volkswagen might display a new member of the ID. family during the Los Angeles Auto Show but instead, could it be the presentation of the production-ready ID.Crozz concept?
Automotive News reports that Volkswagen confirmed the new name for the North-American ID.Crozz. The name? The Volkswagen ID.4. On the stage of the Frankfurt Motor Show, the carmaker is showcasing a heavily camouflaged version of the ID.4 inside a box filled with smoke.
Making its way into dealerships in late 2020, the VW ID.4 will feature two-row, still according to AutoNews. That being said, the camo-ed vehicle displayed in Frankfurt shows a different design line than the ID.Crozz. Indeed, it looks closer to the Atlas Cross Sport, with large hatch, rather than the long, curved roofline the concept has.
Let’s remember that the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 will be built in Chattanooga, Tennessee but only starting in 2022. The first two years of production will be handled in Europe and imported over to North America. Meanwhile, the new Tennessee plant, which received an $800 million investment, will also assemble the I.D. Buzz Microbus.
