Rally covers 1,300 miles of desert running
Just revealed X2 modified to compete in the event.
BMW is taking the X2 off-road racing. A highly modified version of the 2024 BMW X2 will head to the desert in the Rebelle Rally with Rebecca Donaghe behind the wheel and Sedona Blinson navigating.
The rally-ready BMW will be competing in the X-Cross class. To make the hot crossover ready for competition, BMW has put it through extensive modifications.
It starts with Falken Wildpeak AT trail tires on Rotiform wheels designed to cope with the off-road race. The X2 has custom underbody skid plates and a cargo area spare tire carrier. BMW has also added tow straps, Smittybilt recovery gear, and BMW M tow straps. Yes, M Performance makes tow straps.
With the X2 revealed just a couple of days ago, there was little time to prep it for t1,300-mileile off-road rally. “I have competed in a different vehicle for each of my 6 years of the rally. It can be especially challenging to bring a new model you don’t get to train with or even shakedown in the dirt before Day 0, but that’s part of what makes it appealing to me. Those challenges are part of the game, but when the x factor is BMW, the engineering and capabilities are proven and solid – that’s a game changer,” said Donaghe.
The Rebelle is a women-only off-road rally that runs from October 12 through the 21st. Competitors drive six stages through California and Nevada deserts with no GPS or cell navigation.
The custom X2 might be the coolest version of the SUV we’ve ever seen. Taller and tougher, it looks more than up to the challenge of the rally.
