One of just 99 Aston Shooting Brakes in the world
One of just two for sale in North America
It’s an astonishing bit of coachwork, the likes of which are rarely seen in the modern age of the automobile. The Aston Martin Zagato Shooting Brake took the already stunning Vanquish S and turned it up to 11. Or is that rolled through the alphabet to Z? An uber-rare bit of hand-crafted aluminum, what makes this one extra special is that it’s being sold in, of all places, Calgary, at Distinctive Collection Aston Martin/Bentley.
Just 99 of these Zagatos were built, replacing Aston’s factory steel with aluminum to make the long roof, wonderful hatchback rear, and widen that massive nose. One of a series of collaborations between the two brands, this might be the best.
Because it’s nearly perfect. The gaping grille with LED highlights in the headlamps giving it just the right bit of aggression in the nose. The massive hood vents, enlarged to help cool the 580 hp, 6.0L V12. Nearly full-height side vents are cut by a Zagato blade in gold, pointing directly back at the bulging rear fenders.
The wheels are a delicate design of black and gold lace, perfectly accenting the roof, side blade, and paint, and the taillights split by a rear ducktail are a work of art. Even the inside’s been remade, with gold trim to match the exterior and red-clad seats with Z Zagato logo embroidery on both the chairs and door panels.
Behind the driver, this is meant to be practical (as far as million-dollar exotics go), with a carbon and leather cargo floor replacing what was the rear seat. We’d expect it would fit a set of golf clubs, but we’re not sure we’d ever want to mar that beautiful exposed carbon finish.
It’s said just two of these cars made it to Canada. One was this, number 41 (we know the listing says 49, but watch the video) in Lava Red, and we’re not sure which car was the second. We can only find one other Zagato Shooting Brake for sale in North America, and that’s a much less appealing silver car in Chicago, showing how uncommonly these pop up.
