Our Volkswagen ID. Buzz Finally Revealed

The 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz is bigger but just as cool for North America

  • Its longer wheelbase offers more versatility and space.

  • Single engine RWD model more powerful than the European version.

  • An AWD dual-motor version also coming.

Volkswagen has finally unveiled its much-anticipated 2025 ID. Buzz, a modern incarnation of its iconic Microbus, underscoring its commitment to a future of electric mobility. This all-new ID. Buzz, designed specifically for North America, boasts a spacious three-row seating arrangement, facilitated by an extended wheelbase for enhanced interior space and cargo capacity.

Echoing the heritage of the beloved VW Microbus, the ID. Buzz offers a seamless blend of nostalgia and innovation, sporting retro design cues while being loaded with cutting-edge EV technology and advanced driver assistance features. The North American version is longer than its European counterpart, amplifying the vehicle’s utility while retaining a compact footprint.

The North American ID. Buzz measures 192.4 inches in length, approximately 10 inches longer than the two-row European model, with the additional length resulting from a 127.5-inch wheelbase, compared to the two-row’s 117.6 inches. At 77.9 inches wide and 74.6 inches tall, it is roughly as wide as Volkswagen’s Atlas model but five inches taller. Despite the expanded dimensions, it retains a coefficient of drag of just 0.29, an impressive figure for a vehicle of its shape.

Accessing the cabin is done via the dual power-sliding rear doors which feature Easy Open and Close. It enables owners to approach the car with keys in a pocket or bag, and simply gesture a foot beneath the rear bumper to effortlessly open or close the tailgate as required. One cool element are the contemporary version of traditional sliding windows that are fully automated.

Onboard, the ID. Buzz incorporates cutting-edge technology for a seamless connected experience. The cockpit features a 5.3-inch ID. Cockpit behind the steering wheel and a 12.9-inch central infotainment display. Effortless device connectivity is achieved through wireless App-Connect, wireless charging, eight USB-C ports, a 110V outlet, and 12-volt charging. The upgraded infotainment system, similar to the upcoming ID.7 sedan, includes illuminated touch sliders and integrated climate functions for easy access.

Under the hood, so to speak, the North American ID. Buzz doesn’t compromise on power. It boasts a 91-kWh battery and delivers 282 horsepower along with 406 lb.-ft. of torque in the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant. An all-wheel-drive (AWD) version will also available. This is a significant upgrade compared to the two-row European model, which debuted with 201 horsepower and an 82-kWh battery.

“The zero-direct emission ID. Buzz is the spiritual reincarnation of the Microbus, reimagined for our electric future,” said Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of Volkswagen of America, Inc. “It is practical, sustainable, and packaged in an unmistakably fun way that is classic Volkswagen. With its launch, the Bus will once again become our brand hero in America.”

Volkswagen expects to commence sales of the 2025 ID. Buzz in North America in 2024, with online orders opening up in early 2024. First deliveries in Canada and the US should take place from the third quarter. More information such as range and pricing will be shared closer to the launch dates.
