Fisker still has a lot to prove, the American-born brand announcing this week that it already has more than 40,000 reservations for its first electric vehicle, the Ocean SUV. Fisker even indicated that many of these reservations were for the launch versions of the vehicle, or if you prefer the English name, Fisker Ocean One launch edition or Fisker Ocean Extreme, both of which are offered at a price in U.S. dollars of $68,999. Remember that two other liveries will be available when the vehicle hits the market next year.
Fisker will finally open its ordering process on July 1 and expects to produce as many as 5,000 units of the One livery next fall. The second version of the vehicle slated for assembly is the Extreme livery, and the automaker is confident it will sell out the vehicle’s entire production run by 2023 with the first two liveries of the utility model.
That means the Sport and Ultra liveries will have to wait until late 2023 before going into production with deliveries scheduled for early 2024, if all goes well.
The brand’s strategists also mentioned during this week’s announcement that prices for the vehicles would not increase until 2024, or at least not for the first 40,000 reservations. After that, the manufacturer will have to follow the law of supply and demand, especially with all the upheaval of the last few months related to the supply chain.
Fisker has nevertheless committed to notifying reservation holders if a price increase should occur.
The next few months will be crucial for the American division, which is also working on a more affordable electric car, the Fisker PEAR, which could arrive somewhere in 2024.
