This smaller electric SUV will be Lucid motor’s first mass market model, priced around U.S. $50,000.

Lucid Motors is working on a third model that should join its lineup by the end of the year: the Cosmos compact electric SUV.
While the company is currently operating on the premium side of the automotive business, with the Air sedan and Gravity SUVs priced from $99,900 and $113,500 in Canada, respectively, it intends to reach a wider audience with the Cosmos.
Indeed, the California-based automaker is following its Rival Rivian’s strategy, which consists of launching the brand with two high-tech and high-priced models before adding lower cost products a few years down the road.
The timing is even quite similar between the two companies, as Rivian is also just about the launch its first “mainstream” product, the R2 compact SUV.

While Lucid has been relatively quiet on the Cosmos, patent images in Europe found by the Netherlands’ AutoWeek show what to expect from this model.
While the overall theme is unsurprisingly similar to the Air and Gravity, the Cosmos will feature a squashed rear end, forming a fastback roofline.
As confirmed by Inside EVs, who saw a prototype of the Cosmos earlier this year, this new EV will feature a split rear window, like older models of the Toyota Prius.
The Lucid name will be spelled prominently front and rear, with slim taillamps and a full-width light bar for illumination.
Lucid Cosmos patent images | Photo: EUIPOThe side profile is marked by a few curvy lines that squeeze the middle of the doors and reduce the visual height of the doors somewhat.
In these images, the Cosmos also bears some resemblance to the Fisker Ocean and the Jaguar I-Pace.
A few technical details have been revealed, notably a target of 0.22 for the drag coefficient and over 300 miles (482 km) for the range.
The Lucid Cosmo will also benefit from an 800-volt electrical architecture that should allow much faster charging speeds than its direct rivals, with the automaker saying 200 miles (322 km) of range can be added in just 14 minutes.
Lucid Cosmos patent images | Photo: EUIPONo images of the interior have been released for patenting purposes, but Lucid has already given a glimpse of it, which is why we expect the Cosmos to feature a large single screen that spans almost the entire width of the dashboard instead of the multi-screen setups of the Air and Gravity.
While Lucid is an American company with a factory in Arizona, the first units of the Cosmos will come out of a production line in Saudi Arabia later this year.
Most of the vehicles destined for the North American market will be made in Arizona, where the Cosmos will join the Air and Gravity in about a year.
