There are a ton of over-the-top cars at the Geneva Motor Show. Perhaps the most incredible, ridiculous, mind-blowing of them all today was the Pininfarina Battista.
It’s faster than a Tesla Roadster on paper, it’s built in Italy, it’s going on sale, and it looks stunning. The Pininfarina Battista is the first production car from the famed Pininfarina Italian design house started by Pinin Battista. And what a first it is.
We’ve already talked about the Battista last night when it was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. Today, we got a chance to see the car up close for the first time and it’s as spectacular in person as it is in pictures.
As a quick reminder, the Pininfarina Battista is powered by four electric motors – one in each wheel – for a total mind-bending output of 1,900 horsepower. That’s more than any other car on the Geneva show floor including the new Koenigsegg and the Bugatti La Voiture Noire.
Because it’s electric, the Battista doesn’t need to worry about torque lag. According to Pininfarina, the new electric hypercar reaches 100 km/h less than 2.0 seconds. That’s faster than the Tesla Roadster although not by much, and certainly faster than any other production car.
Darn it, it’s faster than a Formula One car. We keep saying it but maybe that’s because the awesome power of the Battista is hard to comprehend without a stark comparison. A 120-kWh battery pack sourced from Rimac gives the Pininfarina hypercar 450 kilometers of range or 280 miles.
Perhaps the best part of the Pininfarina is that it’s not a concept. It’s an actual production car that will be built starting in 2020. 150 units are planned including a few for Canada at a price of $2.2 million. Of course, they are all sold.
