Polestar looking to take on the Tesla Model 3 with the all-new Polestar 2 EV teased yesterday.
Swedish automaker Polestar hasn’t released a vehicle to the public yet and its already planning to take on one of the most popular EVs on the market with its new Polestar 2. A teaser image of the new electric vehicle was released yesterday.
Not much can be ascertained from just the teaser except for the fact that the Polestar 2’s rear headlights will actually be one light bar. The color used on the Polestar 2 concept shown in the teaser is the same as the Polestar 1 and the Volvo 40.2 concept unveiled two years ago.
We do know a bit about the Polestar 2’s specs, however. Early reports suggest that unlike the Polestar 1, the 2 will be a 100% EV. Its fully electric engine will develop 400 horsepower and offer 480 kilometers of range. That will put the Polestar 2, described by its creator as a “four-door fastback” squarely in Tesla Model 3 country.
Polestar is Volvo’s performance arm although it’s now an independent company created by Geely, the group that owns Volvo.
It’s flagship Polestar 1 is expected to launch this year in 18 markets including Canada and the United States. Buyers can currently put down a $2,500 deposit to secure their Polestar 1 which is expected to cost $155,000. The 1 gets a 600-horsepower plug-in hybrid engine with 125 kilometers of all-electric range.
As for the Polestar 2, it’s too early to know how much it will cost or even when it will be available. We do expect to see the full model before spring, however.
