Polestar 4 SUV Adds More Space, a Rear Window and Up to 544 HP

The Polestar 4 Becomes a More Traditional SUV

Polestar is taking its most popular model in a new direction with the introduction of the Polestar 4 SUV, a more versatile version that retains the core technical characteristics of the existing model.

The distinction is significant because the original Polestar 4 adopts a profile closer to that of a coupe-style SUV. The new variant takes a more conventional approach, targeting buyers of compact luxury electric SUVs who prioritize cargo capacity, rear-seat headroom and everyday versatility.

Both models will continue to coexist. Polestar is therefore keeping the sleeker, more distinctive design of the original Polestar 4 while adding an alternative for customers who value practicality.

A Completely Redesigned Rear End

The differences become most obvious behind the passenger compartment. The Polestar 4 SUV retains the signature dual-blade headlights and general proportions of the existing model, but its rear section has been substantially redesigned.

The roofline is straighter and the tailgate more upright to maximize available interior space. Full-length roof rails are also added, supporting a dynamic roof load of up to 100 kg.

Another major change is the return of a conventional rear window.

The original Polestar 4 attracted considerable attention by eliminating the rear window entirely and replacing it with a camera and digital rear-view mirror. The Polestar 4 SUV returns to a far more conventional configuration with a rear window and traditional rear-view mirror as standard.

The digital mirror remains available as an option for drivers who want a wider field of view, particularly when the cargo area is fully loaded.

More Room for Passengers and Cargo

The new body shape directly benefits passengers in the second row. The more upright roofline provides an additional 2.5 cm of rear headroom.

Polestar also installs a new, larger panoramic glass roof that extends almost all the way to the tailgate. An optional electrochromic version allows occupants to electronically adjust the transparency of the glass, choosing between transparent, tinted or selectively shaded sections.

Cargo capacity is naturally one of the strongest arguments for this new Polestar 4 SUV.

There are 530 litres of cargo space behind the second row when measured to the top of the seatbacks, or 655 litres when measured to the roof.

With the 60/40-split rear seats folded, cargo capacity increases to 1,665 litres. Including the front and rear storage compartments, Polestar claims up to 1,680 litres of total storage capacity.

Up to 544 HP With Dual Electric Motors

Mechanically, Polestar is not reinventing the formula. The Polestar 4 SUV is based on the same SEA architecture as the coupe-style Polestar 4 and is offered with two electric powertrains.

The Rear Motor version uses a 200-kW electric motor producing 272 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and offers up to 630 km of WLTP range, which could translate to roughly 539 km under North American testing standards.

The Dual Motor version adds a second electric motor and all-wheel drive. Output increases to 400 kW, or 544 horsepower, along with 506 lb-ft of torque. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes just 3.9 seconds, while maximum WLTP range is rated at 600 km. Under North American testing standards, that could translate to approximately 514 km.

Both versions come standard with a 100-kWh battery. Level 3 DC fast charging reaches up to 200 kW, while Level 2 AC charging is rated at 11 kW in Canada.

A Performance Pack Remains Available

Drivers looking for a more engaging experience can opt for the Performance Pack.

It includes recalibrated ZF active dampers, high-performance Brembo brakes with Swedish Gold calipers and new 22-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero performance tires.

A few visual details also distinguish the different powertrains. The Rear Motor version features an all-black theme, while the Dual Motor model adds a gold stripe to the seatbelts and rotary control knob. With the Performance Pack, the seatbelts are finished entirely in Polestar’s signature Swedish Gold.

V2L, Camping Mode and Google Gemini AI

Polestar is also using the new SUV variant to introduce several technologies that will eventually be expanded across the entire Polestar 4 lineup.

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability allows the 100-kWh battery to supply electricity to external devices. The system can deliver up to 3.3 kW through an adapter sold separately, making it possible to power camping equipment, tools and various electronic devices directly from the vehicle.

A new Camping Mode can also transform the parked Polestar 4 SUV into a climate-controlled space while maintaining access to entertainment features, ambient lighting and vehicle controls.

Google Gemini is another major addition. The artificial intelligence system gradually replaces traditional voice commands with more natural interactions capable of understanding context and supporting multi-step conversations. Gemini Live can also assist with tasks such as trip planning and real-time translation.

Two Distinct Personalities for the Polestar 4

With this new variant, Polestar is not completely transforming its electric model. Instead, it is giving the Polestar 4 a second personality while addressing what many considered one of the original model’s biggest mistakes: the absence of a rear window.

The original Polestar 4 remains the more style-focused choice, with its sleek profile and controversial windowless rear design. The Polestar 4 SUV takes a much more conventional approach with its straighter roofline, actual rear window, greater cargo capacity and additional passenger headroom.

Performance remains very similar, however, as both models share the same architecture, electric powertrains and 100-kWh battery.

The Polestar 4 SUV will be manufactured entirely in Busan, South Korea. Canadian pricing has yet to be announced. The current Polestar 4 starts at $62,700 in Canada, so it would be reasonable to expect the more practical SUV variant to command a slightly higher price.

Production of the new Polestar 4 SUV is already underway in Busan, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
