Polestar 5 revealed camo-free
Model expected to compete with Porsche Taycan
As part of its first Polestar Day, held in Los Angeles earlier this week, the EV automaker brought together all of its models for the first time. That includes the Polestar 5, which let us see the model for the very first time without camouflage.
The Polestar 5 isn’t exactly a secret. The Precept concept was a tease, and we’ve seen it in camo a couple of times including at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. But seeing it without covering for the first time is still a big deal.
Like the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT, this is a five-door hatchback. Unlike those two models, it won’t have a back window. Yes, that’s right, there’s no rear glass.
Instead of glass, you get the gloss black roof panel meeting a solid body-colour trunklik.
To let you see out of the back, you get cameras—and side mirrors.
The 5 will get Polestar’s all-new ultra-fast charging tech. The tech it promises to deliver 100 miles (160 km) in five minutes of charging, even with existing battery tech.
Polestar plans to launch the car next year. It’s expected to arrive at dealers the following year. Polestar says the car will be loaded with more sustainable materials, eye-tracking infotainment, and there are rumours it will have nearly 900 hp. So you might not need those rear windows after all.
