Polestar first earned its stripes in motorsports, and then by reworking models from the Volvo lineup over the years. Even though they’ve switched to electric propulsion in recent seasons – and even to full-fledged manufacturer status – Polestar still cares about the performance of their vehicles.
At least, that’s what’s evident in this new Polestar 2 BST 270 edition, a limited, performance-oriented edition that the automaker plans to market in Europe, China, and North America. Of the number, only 20 copies of this special Polestar 2 will cross the Canadian border.
Polestar introduced a modified Polestar 2 at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and the response from enthusiasts was enough to convince the brand’s top management to move forward with the project. “The specially modified Polestar 2 that we presented at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed was very well received and the feedback was clear that we needed to create a production version of this type,” said Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar.
Engineers enhanced the performance of the two electric motors and 78 kWh battery to achieve a total output of 476 horsepower (up from 402 hp in the two-motor version) and 502 lb-ft of peak torque (up from 487 lb-ft), as well as improved responsiveness.
The body is also lowered by 25 mm compared to the regular model, while the Öhlins shocks are unique to this livery of the car. There’s also an anti-lift bar, 20 percent stiffer springs and even new 21-inch matte black wheels, which are borrowed from the Polestar 1. What’s more, the Pirelli P Zero tires were developed for this car. On the braking side, Brembo four-piston callipers are still on the program.
Polestar also limits the choice of colors for the body, the Polestar 2 BST edition 270 which will be available with the colors “Thunder” or “Snow” with the interior color “Charcoal WeaveTech”. The mirror shells are painted in gloss black, while the bumpers and side skirts are also painted. Consumers can also add a matte black decorative stripe down the center of the car, as well as a full-body wrap in “Battleship Gray Satin”.
The limited-edition model is available in Thunder or Snow exterior colors with a Charcoal WeaveTech interior. The body features a more substantial expression with fully painted bumpers and side skirts. An optional matte black body stripe is available, as well as a full-body wrap in Satin Battleship Gray. The side mirrors are finished in gloss black. The signature “Swedish Gold” details are retained, including on the brake callipers, shock absorber components, valve caps and seat belts.
Polestar expects to deliver the first examples of this limited performance edition starting in the fourth quarter of this year.
