The Porsche 911 was named the first-ever most dependable car overall by J.D. Power in its recent Vehicle Dependability Study.
Thinking of buying a new Porsche 911? Go nuts. According to J.D. Power and their recent 2019 Vehicle Dependability Study, it shouldn’t cause you to many problems. The study looked at the amount of problems per 100 vehicles over the last three years.
It polled roughly 33,000 owners of 2016 model-year vehicles to determine their overall level of satisfaction and the dependability of their vehicle. For the first time, J.D. Power named one car the overall dependability winner, selecting the Porsche 911 as its Most Dependable Model.
Porsche finished second as a brand behind Lexus which took home top honors as the most dependable brand. Its owner, Toyota, finished third with Chevrolet and Buick rounding out the top 5. It’s another strong showing for these two GM brands who finished 6th and 3rd last year.
General Motors had the most vehicles winning their segments for dependability with the Buick LaCrosse, Buick Verano, Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Silverado HD and Chevrolet Sonic all leading their segment.
Chrysler was the most improved brand with a reduction of 65 problems per 100 vehicles sold compared to last year, good enough for 16th in the ranking. It was still below average but Chrysler had finished last in the 2018 Vehicle Dependability Study. MINI and Subaru also improved.
The study found an average of 136 problems per 100 vehicles. Fourteen automakers had less problems than average including the top 5 we named above, MINI, BMW, Audi, Kia, Hyundai, Infiniti, Subaru, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen.
The five least reliable vehicles in order were Fiat, Land Rover, Volvo, Dodge, and Ram.
