Porsche unveiled the 911 Speedster Concept last June at its 70th anniversary of building sports cars party and they have now just confirmed it’s going into production. Shown earlier today in Paris, during the Paris Motor Show boasting the iconic Guards Red colour, the Porsche 911 Speedster will be produced as a limited special edition with only 1,948 being built.
Although it is based on the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, the Porsche 911 Speedster is characterized by a more inclined windshield, a shorter window frame and shorter side windows. It features 21-inch center lock wheels, two classic Talbot shaped exterior mirrors finished in black-chrome and platinum, a six-speed manual transmission as well as titanium tailpipes. The two-seater also gets a naturally-aspirated flat-six engine which produces more than 500 hp.
Perhaps more importantly, the chassis comes from the 911 GT3. The fenders, hood and trunk are all made from lightweight carbon fibre composite.
The 911 Speedster will offer the new Heritage Design Packages as well, which will provide a modern twist to its colour themes from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.
Oh! And that 50s-style-central-fuel-tank cap in the middle of the hood is a nice touch too.
