We’re a little late on this one, but it’s never too late to talk about a Speedster version of the Porsche 911.
Our first look at the Porsche 911 Speedster came last year when a concept for the legendary 911 Speedster version was unveiled. Now, CarBuzz is reporting that the production model is coming to the 2019 New York International Auto Show.
A 911 Speedster client sent the site an image of their invitation to the unveiling of the car on April 18, a few days after the auto show’s media days. It’s very likely that the new Speedster will be unveiled during those two press days.
We know it will be based on the current Porsche 911 GT3 and pack a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat-six with 500 horsepower. The 911 Speedster could even get a six-speed manual like the 911 GT3. Less than 2,000 units of the new Speedster will be built (1,948) which means this Speedster will be more common than the last 2011 Speedster of which only 356 units were built. That said, getting one will still be tricky as all available units have already been sold.
The concept version unveiled ahead of the Paris Motor Show last fall was simply spectacular. It featured the traditional 911 Speedster iconic design with subtle nods to history including round side mirrors.
