Porsche Boxster 25 Years Celebrates Two-Seater’s Anniversary

  • Anniversary car based on GTS 4.0 model

  • Wears special paintwork, more standard interior goodies

It’s been 25 years since the Porsche Boxster was first offered for sale, adding a more affordable, pared-down model to the company’s lineup. So to celebrate just how far the model has come in the 25 years since the first water-cooled flat-sixes, Porsche is building a special Boxster 25 years.

The Boxster arrived on the market in 1996 sporting two seats, a 2.5L flat-six, and a nose that would usher in the modern era of Porsche styling. Even if not everyone is yet a fan of those early headlights. Forget the piddling 200 hp 2.5L, though, this Porsche 718 Boxster 25 gets the 4.0L flat-six from the GTS 4.0 (on which the car is based) making 395 hp and sending it through either a six-speed stick or a seven-speed PDK auto box.

That special paintwork for the exterior trim and wheels is called Neodyme, Porsche calls it a “copper-like shimmering brown” and it’s a reinterpretation of an old colour that pairs excellently with the GT Silver Metallic of the bodywork that is the same colour as the original show car. The Boxster 25 Years will also be offered in black or white metallics.

Inside is a Bordeaux leather interior and it’s hidden by a red fabric roof with Boxster 25 lettering. Black is an option for both roof and cabin, but seems a shame with the wonderful red on offer. Boxster 25 door sills join aluminum interior trim, 14-way adjustable sports seats, and a heated GT-style wheel as extra kit on the car.

Chassis bits include the Sport Chrono package, active suspension management that’s been lowered by 10 mm, and torque vectoring with mechanical limited-slip rear diff.

Order books for the cars are open now until the end of March, but with just 1,250 available worldwide, don’t wait until the last minute if you’re hoping to get one.
