Porsche Classic Cars Get Modern Infotainment

Blast through the countryside, blast the tunes.

  • Porsche Classic Communication Management systems feature a touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and navigation.
  • 1-DIN PCCM and 2-DIN PCCM Plus boast a retro design for an integrated look.
  • PCCM Plus also includes a USB port, Bluetooth and Android Auto integration.

For those who love to go for a ride in their Porsche classic car, but wish they could listen to their favourite tunes, the German brand now has a solution with its new Porsche Classic Communication Management infotainment systems.

A 1991 Porsche 911 Reimagined By Singer For Sale At $1.4 Million

Granted, this isn’t the first time the company offers a modern retrofit sound system, but these two new 1-DIN and 2-DIN sized Porsche Classic units feature a high-resolution touchscreen, Apple CarPlay integration, navigation and—for countries around the world except North America has HD Radio—Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus, or DAB+.

The 1-DIN format was used in automobiles for many, many years, and Porsche Classic’s unit includes two rotary knobs, six physical buttons and a 3.5-inch touch-sensitive display, while the navigation map and data are drawn from an SD media card. Aside from the modern colour screen, this PCCM boasts a rather vintage design that won’t look out of place in a vintage sports car.

For the 996-generation Porsche 911 and 986-generation Porsche Boxster, the automaker offers the new 2-DIN PCCM Plus unit, which boasts a seven-inch touchscreen and similar design cues as the dashboard for a seamless integration. This Porsche Classic system can also hook up to the car’s existing amplifier, speakers and antenna. The navigation map and data are also taken off an SD media card, and PCCM Plus also features audio playback through an auxiliary input jack, a USB stick, an SD card or Bluetooth streaming. Unlike the smaller PCCM unit, the 2-DIN setup is also Android Auto integration-ready.

The Porsche Classic Communication Management systems can be ordered at the dealership or online. Pricing for North American markets isn’t available yet, but the PCCM costs 1,440 euros (about CAD$2,184 at the current exchange rate) while the PCCM Plus unit is listed at 1,607 euros (about CAD$2,437).
