Porsche is still working on its three-motor Taycan

  • The current Porsche Taycan Turbo S delivers 750 hp and 774 ft-lb of torque.

  • The super sedans from Tesla and Lucid are already above the 1 000 hp mark.

  • Could this super Taycan be revealed before the end of the year?

The race for high-performance electrification continues in the upper echelon of the electron-powered automobile.

This time, it’s Porsche’s turn to innovate, as the automaker is currently working on a variant that can compete with the monster sedans known as the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Lucid Air Sapphire, the latter coming out of the company’s workshops with a 1,200-horsepower powertrain. The other supercar, the Tesla Model S Plaid is powered by a 1,020-horsepower horde.

At the time of writing, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is powered by up to 750 horsepower and 774 lb-ft of torque. So, there’s a gap between the two American electric sedans and Porsche’s response, but the mere fact that a prototype has already been spotted on the famous Nürburgring racetrack earlier this fall confirms that engineers are indeed preparing the next chapter in the Taycan story.

Earlier this week, a prototype of the electric sedan was once again spotted on the roads of the old continent, more precisely near the Arctic Circle.  The first clue to its more precise vocation is the large spoiler attached to the car’s trunk. But that’s not all, because beyond this “TDI” badge glued to the base of the trunk, this Taycan stands out from the others by its wider rocker panels, a compliment that also applies to the car’s bumper, which receives a wider spoiler at the base of the front bumper.

According to current reports, the Stuttgart-based automaker has also grafted a third electric motor to its electric performance car, a solution already employed by the other two supercars. So, it’s not crazy to think that the Taycan Turbo S will soon be eclipsed by this variant, whose name remains unknown at the moment. And since the other two electric sedans are equipped with 1,000-plus horsepower engines, this new sportier Taycan should, in theory, surpass the 1 000 horsepower mark.

Is the automaker far enough along to introduce its new super Taycan this year? We’ll have to wait and see about this future interpretation of the brand’s electric model.
