Porsche sold 4% more electric vehicles in Q1 2022 year-over-year
The total sales of the company decreased by 5% over the same period
The Taycan is still selling more than the iconic 911
The electrification efforts from Porsche are so successful that the company sold 4% more EVs in the first quarter of 2022 than it did at the same time last year, despite overall sales dropping by 5% in the meantime.
Porsche sold 9,470 units of the Taycan electric sports car and its wagon version, the Taycan Cross Turismo, during the first three months of the year, which amounts to 13.8% of its overall sales of 68,426 vehicles.
Even more impressive, the Taycan continues to outsell the iconic 911 by over a hundred units, thus placing in third position on the rakings of the most popular Porsche models, behind the Cayenne and Macan, both of which benefit from the strong market preference towards SUVs.
Since it was introduced, the Taycan has sold over 70,000 units worldwide, of which 41,000 have been delivered in the last year.
These sales records for EVs are definitely not over for Porsche since the all-electric Macan will join the lineup as a 2024 model.
The arrival of this new model will boost the demand for electric Porsche since it will be the first electric SUV sold by the brand. By combining the inherent popularity of EVs and SUVs with the appeal of the Porsche badge, the electric Macan is expected to be a sales success as soon as it is put on sale.
Meanwhile, the Taycan continues to attract more and more buyers to the electric car scene with its performances and its reputation.
