Quickest EV around historic circuit
Stock Taycan Turbo S used for attempt
Porsche is still going for track records with its electric Taycan, and after setting a top time at the Nurburgring they’ve turned their sights on America. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has just set an EV lap record at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
The track is conveniently located about an hour’s drive from Porsche North America HQ (and the Porsche Experience Center) in Atlanta, and so it was a logical place for the automaker to go for some lap times. It’s also a challenging course with technical S-bends, long straights, and plenty of elevation changes.
A standard-production Taycan Turbo S was taken to the track November third, and was fitted (apologies to track sponsor Michelin) with Pirelli P Zero NFO Elect summer tires in 265/35-21 front and 305/30-21 rear, as it was equipped from the factory. While tire pressures were adjusted, this was a standard car.
The quickest lap of the 2.54-mile circuit was 1:33.88 minutes, which the automaker says is the fastest production EV lap there.
“This track is unforgiving, meaning you have to trust the car completely,” said professional race car driver Leh Keen. Keen added that “the electric motors respond so quickly, the power is right there when I need it, and combined with the active differentials, makes the Taycan a game changer when it comes to handling.”
