Consumers had been asking for it for quite some time. They wanted true off-road capability, serious towing performance, and above all, massive low-end torque. That demand is precisely why the 2027 Power Wagon now exists with a Cummins turbodiesel engine.
The Cummins will be available from mid-2026
Power is rated at 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque
It can tow up to 20,000 pounds
The Power Wagon name traces its roots back to 1945, and its return in diesel form represents a major milestone in that long history. By blending diesel efficiency, advanced technology, and class-leading off-road hardware, Ram has created a heavy-duty pickup tailored to the diverse needs of demanding drivers. Scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2026 with pricing positioned in the premium heavy-duty segment, the 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel stands as one of the most capable and versatile full-size trucks ever offered in North America.

Listening to customers
The arrival of the 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel represents a shift in the heavy-duty pickup market. For years, off-road enthusiasts and work-oriented buyers alike have been asking for a Power Wagon equipped with a Cummins diesel engine. Ram has now answered that demand by introducing the first-ever Power Wagon powered by the 6.7-litre Cummins High-Output turbo diesel, combining extreme off-road capability with long-distance efficiency and serious towing performance suited to all conditions.
And old friend under the hood
At the core of the 2027 Power Wagon Diesel is the well-known 6,7 litre Cummins inline-six engine, delivering 430 horsepower and a class-leading 1,075 lb-ft of torque. This output places the truck among the most powerful diesel pickups available in North America, especially for buyers who rely on torque for towing trailers, hauling equipment, or navigating challenging terrain. The engine is paired with the TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic transmission, designed to maximize low-speed control for off-road use while maintaining smooth, efficient highway driving on long routes.

Still as good in off-roading
Unlike many heavy-duty pickups that prioritize towing at the expense of trail performance, the Power Wagon Diesel remains engineered first and foremost for off-road capability. It retains solid front and rear axles, electronic locking differentials, and a disconnecting front sway bar that improves articulation on uneven terrain. These features are especially relevant for buyers who use their trucks for backcountry access, remote job sites, hunting camps, or winter travel where traction and suspension flexibility are critical.

The rear suspension continues to use a five-link coil system rather than traditional leaf springs, a configuration that remains unique in the heavy-duty segment. This setup improves ride comfort on rough roads while maintaining the durability required for payload and towing. Bilstein monotube shocks are standard, ensuring stability whether the truck is crawling over rocks, towing on highways, or driving through snow-covered terrain. A 3.42 rear axle ratio helps balance diesel torque delivery with fuel efficiency, a key consideration given Canadian fuel prices and long-distance travel needs.

One of the most significant advantages of the diesel Power Wagon for Canadian buyers is its extended driving range. With a standard 117.3 litres fuel tank, the truck offers an estimated range of approximately 966 kilometers (600 miles). This makes it particularly appealing for overlanding, northern travel, or remote work scenarios where fuel stations are limited. Diesel efficiency also provides improved cold-weather performance, an important factor in many parts of North America.
Bring on the heavy weight
Towing capability has historically been a limitation for Power Wagon models, but the diesel version changes that equation. With towing capacity approaching 20,000 pounds and payload nearing 3,000 pounds, the 2027 Power Wagon Diesel is capable of handling large trailers, snowmobiles, campers, and work equipment. For the first time, fifth-wheel and gooseneck preparation are available, along with an automatic-leveling rear air suspension that simplifies trailer hookup and improves stability under load.

The bold style remains
From an exterior standpoint, the 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel maintains the rugged styling expected of the nameplate. Offered exclusively as a four-wheel-drive crew cab with a six-foot-four-inch bed, it features a sport performance hood, Power Wagon bed graphics, and Satin Black Cummins badging. Functional design elements such as wheel arch extensions and standard rock rails are not merely aesthetic, but essential for protecting the truck during off-road use in rocky or snowy environments common across Canada.

Perfect where there is no more road
Ground clearance measures 12.6 inches, supported by strong approach and departure angles that allow the Power Wagon Diesel to tackle steep inclines and obstacles. Extensive skid plate coverage protects critical components including the transfer case, fuel tank, and diesel exhaust fluid system, ensuring durability in harsh conditions. These attributes make the truck well suited to forestry roads, mining operations, and recreational trails.
High luxury interior
Inside the cabin, Ram continues to set the benchmark for interior quality in the heavy-duty pickup segment. Buyers can choose between practical heated cloth seating or upgrade to heated and ventilated leather-trimmed bucket seats, a valuable feature for Canada’s wide temperature range. Available equipment packages expand leather trim throughout the cabin, combining comfort with durability for daily driving or extended trips.

Technology is another strong selling point. A 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen comes standard, with an available 14.5-inch display for enhanced navigation, towing data, and off-road information. Driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, pedestrian detection, and rear cross-path alert are standard, reflecting increasing safety expectations among truck buyers.
Pricing and availability
The new Ram Power Wagon Diesel will be available by mid-2026, likely around July. Canadian pricing has not yet been announced. However, it is expected to come in higher than the current 2026 Power Wagon equipped with the 6.6-litre V8, which starts at $92,490. In the U.S., the base price, including destination charges, is set at $88,470.
