Renault to Launch Twingo E-Tech Electric in 2026 Under €20,000

Renault will reintroduce its Twingo city car as a fully electric model in early 2026, hoping to revitalize the shrinking A-segment with a sub-€20,000 ($32,500 CDN) vehicle designed for urban mobility and second-car use.

The new Twingo E-Tech electric features a compact 60 kW (80 hp) motor and a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery capable of delivering up to 263 kilometres of WLTP-certified range. Designed to handle daily city commutes, it also includes a one-pedal driving function for improved traffic handling.

Unlike many manufacturers that have withdrawn from the A-segment, Renault is targeting a resurgence by leveraging its long-standing expertise in compact cars. While A-segment sales now account for less than 5% of the European market, Renault argues the demand persists — the lack of supply has left consumers without viable options. The brand positions the Twingo E-Tech electric as a response to these unmet needs.

Building on the legacy of the original 1992 Twingo, the latest model integrates heritage-inspired design with modern practicality. It comes standard with five doors, two individually sliding rear seats, and a folding front passenger seat. These features allow for a highly configurable interior, prioritizing flexibility and space.

Technological updates include the OpenR Link infotainment system with Google built-in, a first in this segment, along with driving aids typically reserved for larger vehicle classes. Renault has focused on delivering value while maintaining European production and decarbonization goals.

Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive stated that the project balances cost, sustainability, and customer expectations by revisiting the original Twingo’s ethos of playfulness and practicality.

Even the higher-end variants of the Twingo E-Tech electric will remain competitively priced, supporting Renault’s objective of increasing accessibility to electric vehicles without sacrificing usability or design.

The Twingo E-Tech electric will be assembled at Renault’s Novo Mesto facility in Slovenia.
