Big V8 option joining list of AT4 options
Expect a $2,000 increase over 5.3L engine
GMC is giving the Yukon AT4 the big V8 as an option for 2022. That lets buyers of the off-road ready 2022 GMC Yukon AT4 get to wherever they want to go even more quickly than before, though it may require an extra stop at the gas pumps.
The 6.2L L87 V8 will be an option for the Yukon AT4 for the new year, reports GM Authority. The engine was available on the Denali previously, but not with the off-roader. GM’s 6.2L V8 generates 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, and is linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It is already available in top versions of the Yukon and Yukon XL as well as the Cadillac Escalade and GM pickups.
The 6.2L option is a big upgrade to the 5.3L that is standard on the full-size SUVs. That one makes just 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, and in most cases uses the same 10-speed automatic. Both make peak torque at 4,100 rpm.
According to the report, the 3.0L Duramax inline-six diesel will still not be an option on the AT4 trim vehicles. That’s due to the special off-road front fascia that blocks the intercooler and piping, making it impossible to fit properly and keep cool without GM making another change to the nose.
Pricing for the 2022 models has not yet been revealed, though expect the difference to be similar to that on other GM models. Based on the price difference between 3.0L diesel and the two V8s, we expect the 6.2L engine option to be around $2,000.
