Rivian Automotive has just launched its fully electric pickup that will offer a range of nearly 650 km, the Rivian R1T. With its four electric motors-powered all-wheel-drive system and being able to venture into a full meter of water or mud, the R1T is ready for all conditions.
The Rivian R1T as a style of its own and stands out with its “stadium” headlights and its daytime running lights that extend throughout the front grille. The frunk, which, by the way, fully powered for opening and closing, lays a 330L storage space. Another 350L, well hidden under the cab, was added to put a surfboard, golf clubs or even a stroller.
We could not talk about a pickup without talking about its cargo bed. The R1T’s box is watertight and comes with a built-in tonneau cover. It also contains a sealed 200L compartment underneath that can accommodate a full-size spare wheel. An air compressor and three 110-volt outlets are also found in the cargo bed.
The pickup will be built on a skateboard platform that will bring together a mix of components, from the batteries to the thermal system and even the suspension. The latter will be composed of adaptive dampers as well as a height-adjustable air suspension.
Each one of the four electric motors is producing 147kW, for a total of 825 lb-ft of torque. With that said, the Rivian R1T is capable of nailing the 0-60 mph in 3 seconds and reaching 100 mph in less than 7 seconds.
When the R1T will launch, two versions will be offered to the buyers, a 180 kWh model, and a 135 kWh model. A third version, 105 kWh, will be available by next summer. What’s the retail price you ask? The Rivian R1T will have a starting price of $ 69,000 USD and the first units will be delivered by the end of 2020. To order the pickup simply go to rivian.com and leave a refundable deposit of $1,000.
