Rivian wants all of its present and future customers to understand how functional their electric pickup is. Unlike any currently offered on the market today, the R1T features a number of storage solutions that will make any job or play day that much more efficient.
If we begin with the bed, it is made of reinforced, compression-molded structural composite that corrosion and wear-resistant. With the tailgate in place, it measures 54 inches in length. When down, the depth extends to 83.6 inches. Smartly, when the tailgate is down, a load-bearing panel eliminates the gap between it and the bed. What’s more, there’s a lockable storage space beneath the bed. It is large enough for our full-size spare and is weather- and dust-proof. There’s even an in-bed compressor to inflate anything your heart desires.
Up front, the frunk is large enough to accommodate a half-dozen grocery bags and features a cargo net, lights, a 12-volt outlet, and a removable platform on the floor reveals an additional compartment for storing things.
On the topic of storing, the Gear Tunnel is by far the Rivian R1T’s most novel feature. It measures 65 inches across and essentially serves as the truck’s mudroom. The doors double as seats where muddy boots can be removed and thrown into the washable storage space. The Tunnel also includes both 110-volt and 12-volt plugs.
There are plenty of other details that Rivian has shared and you can find them here.
