The world wants a new S2000 and Honda might bring it back in the next few months.
Of the countless questions: Will it be a convertible?
Rumours about a new sporty car coming from Honda is old news. Four roughly four years, the interwebs have been quietly buzzing about the possible return of the S2000 in more ways than one.
About two years ago, stories about the Honda Sports EV Concept, which was revealed at the 2017 Tokyo Motor show, emerged describing it as the possible all-electric successor to the S2000. Last year, Honda teased two electric sports cars along with their announed plans to launch 30 EVs globally by 2030.
The reason why the rumoured return of the S2000 is back in the headlines comes from Car Magazine which claims that Honda will “stun the world with its first electric sports car later this year in celebration of its 75th anniversary.”
Supporting this claim are the images from last year’s presentation featuring the next NSX and a new GT, and the fact that Honda originally released the Roadster, the S2K, to mark their 50th anniversary. This new EV is said to be built on the new e:N architecture and get pushed around by a rear-mounted electric motor.
We look forward to finding out more.
