Shelby SuperCars is back with the 1,750-horsepower Tuatara

Imagine you’re in the market for a new vehicle, and your main concern is top speed. Now, imagine that you are rather discerning in that area, and 200 mph just won’t do it for you. Too ordinary and common. Well, Shelby SuperCars of North America understands you, and they can offer you the Tuatara which was recently unveiled at Pebble Beach.

See with SCC’s latest car, you can reach 300 mph, even exceed it. That’s nearly 500 km/h in Canada.

The Tuatara is a collection of numbers, but few are available. We know that with the proper fuel, it will develop 1,750 horsepower, 250 more than a run-of-the-mill Chiron. Now, if you don’t have the flex fuel required to reach that high in the horsepower range, you can still use premium and get 1,350 horsepower from the 5.9-liter V8 twin-turbo engine that sits behind you and only weighs 428 pounds.

We don’t know how quickly it gets to 100 km/h, let alone 500 km/h, but we assume it’s in the high 2,0 seconds given the thing only weights 2,750 pounds and has a drag coefficient of just 0.279. Yes, there’s carbon fiber everywhere.

As for its name, the Tuatara is a reptile from New Zealand. Not quite sure what we can add to that, so we won’t try. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but only 100 SSC Tuatara’s will be built.
