Some Audi Dealers Marking Up RS6 Avant $50k

US Customers can expect big markup for hot wagon

  • $199k for 591 hp wagon with MSRP of $136,800

  • RS6 Avant in high demand, but should get more model years

Audi‘s 591 hp superwagon has us excited, buyers excited, and, well, it looks like it’s got dealer finance departments excited too. It looks like the old buyer nemesis of market adjustment is hitting the Audi RS6 Avant, and it’s hitting the wagon hard.

The Audi RS6 Avant starts from $109,000, and it’s loaded with high-performance features. So loaded, that dealers seem to think it’s a bit too good of a bargain. The Drive looked into a couple of US dealers who are charging $50,000 or more on top of the window sticker if you want to bring the RS6 home.

“Most [dealers] are charging $20K over but we’re at $15K,” an Audi Queens employee said in a message to Terry Dařílek, who inquired about their RS6 Avant and shared screenshots of his car-search inquiries with The Drive. According to the report, and their research, this is occurring at many dealerships across the US.

They also show a screenshot from Audi Burlington, who show the MSRP of $137,845 (for a highly optioned car) but the site says “please call” and a photo of a window sticker shows that $50,000 markup (on top of a $995 glass coating and $2,995 for “premium shield complete nose.”) If you want one of the $136,800 Norago Blue Tribute Editions, at least one dealer is asking for $199,995 for the vehicle.

While vehicle markups aren’t exactly new, markups of this amount are certainly unusual. And the RS6 isn’t exactly rare, since it’s still in production. Audi US told The Drive that though most of the first year cars have been spoken for “the car has some years ahead of it and is open for ordering.” Of course, you’d need to find a dealer willing to take your order without a markup.

As far as Canadian RS6s, well, we can’t find any listed in dealer inventory at the moment. That said, despite the rarity of the car, it’s unusual to see any dealer markups here. Normally if they would like a bit more profit, dealers use add-ons like window etching, undercoating, and extended warranty sales, but we’d expect that if you can find one of the few Audi RS6s to come here that they’ll be closer to their window sticker (starting from $120,400). At least until the first owner tries to sell for a profit.
