Demand is far out-stripping Volkswagen’s initial production plans.
The pandemic and chip shortage are not helping.
ID.4 Pro models with the Statement packages get priority production spots.
Volkswagen’s situation is not unusual these days. As interest for EVs grows and the pandemic continues to create part supply issues, automakers are being forced to delay market launches. As well, extreme demand is far outstripping production plans. Volkswagen is facing both situations and has bad news for many of its ID.4 reservation holders.
If you pre-ordered a Volkswagen ID.4 Pro a year ago, you’ll have to be very patient, especially if you opted not to get the $8,000 Statement package. The giant German automaker has just informed its reservation holders that ID.4 Pros specified without the package will only be produced in 2023. More specifically, Volkswagen Canada used the words “should probably be built” in 2023…
If, on the other hand, the package is included in your pre-order, your build will take priority. Many hold a spot for 2021 model year ID.4, and should it not be assembled in time, the reservation will automatically be switched for a 2022.
Finally, those who were quickest on the “pre-order now button” for a 2021 ID.4 should get their vehicle delivered within the next three months.
Volkswagen is currently putting the finishing touches on the Chattanooga plant. It should be churning out new ID.4s by the end of this year.
