Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa reviews U.S. viability of Fiat and Alfa Romeo amid poor sales.
Fiat’s Q4 deliveries fell 89%, with only one vehicle available in the U.S. market.
Alfa Romeo ends 2025 down 36% in U.S. sales, plans larger crossover for 2028.
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa is preparing to make key decisions about the automaker’s global brand portfolio, as Fiat and Alfa Romeo continue to post low sales in the United States and Canada. Filosa, speaking at the Detroit Auto Show ahead of his seventh month in the role, acknowledged the need for strategic change to support long-term growth. This story might feel like dejà-vu to you as well…
As Stellantis Moves Forward, Alfa Romeo And Chrysler Futures Uncertain
The company oversees 14 automotive brands, including U.S./Canada mainstays Jeep, Ram, Dodge, and Chrysler, as well as European names such as Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel. Filosa described the collection as a “privilege,” while noting that each brand has distinct strengths and market challenges.
In the U.S. and Canadian markets, Fiat’s presence has shrunk to a single model in the electric 500e. The vehicle recorded just 84 deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2025, down 89% from the same period a year earlier. Total U.S. sales for the year dropped 14% to 1,321 units. The story is different in Canada where 572 500e EVs were sold in the 4th quarter, for a grand total of 2,423 units in 2025, or a whopping 90% increase. Still, all of 3,744 sales for an entire year makes for a difficult business case…
Fiat Confirms U.S. Launch of Topolino Micro-EV, Unveils One-off Art Car at Miami Art Week
The only known product in development for Fiat is the Topolino, a small electric quadricycle with an estimated range of 75 km and a top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph). Classified as a low-speed vehicle, the Topolino’s utility in North American markets remains uncertain. It won’t save the brand here.
Alfa Romeo has also seen declining performance. U.S. sales fell 57% in the fourth quarter to 874 units and dropped 36% for the full year to 5,652. Canadian numbers are no better with a 40% drop in the 4th quarter to 122 units and a 26% drop to 660 units for the entire 2025. The brand recently adjusted its electrification strategy, abandoning a previous goal to become all-electric by 2027 in favour of a multienergy approach.
The Alfa Romeo lineup in North America includes the Giulia sedan, Stelvio crossover, and a gasoline version of the Tonale, the sole version left after the discontinuation of the PHEV variant. Forecasts from AutoForecast Solutions suggest that a larger crossover may be added in 2028, using Stellantis’ STLA Large platform.
Filosa declined to disclose any concrete plans for Fiat and Alfa Romeo, stating that the brands have broader global significance. “Alfa is a very Italian brand. Fiat is a multiregional brand, so it’s strong in Europe, strong in South America, strong in Middle East. We sell some here as well,” he said. “I will carefully listen to their proposals to understand what’s the future in any geography, not only U.S.”
Filosa is expected to provide more clarity on Stellantis’ brand strategy during its upcoming Capital Markets Day.
