Stellantis Delays Production of Dodge Charger EV 4-Door

Production delay of Dodge Charger Daytona R/T tied to U.S. tariffs; no layoffs expected at Windsor plant.

  • Stellantis delays 4-door Charger EV to 2026 due to U.S. tariffs on non-CUSMA vehicles.

  • No job losses anticipated at Windsor Assembly Plant amid retooling for future models.

  • EV production slowdown reflects global trend, with ICE versions still in development.

Stellantis has postponed the launch of the four-door Dodge Charger Daytona EV to the 2026 model year, changing its production timeline due to ongoing U.S. tariff policies. Originally scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2025, the Canadian-built electric vehicle will now enter production in the second half of that year, with sales commencing as a 2026 model.

The delay affects operations at Stellantis’s Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, which employs approximately 4,500 workers and also produces the Chrysler Pacifica. Company officials have stated that the revised timeline will not result in layoffs at the facility.

Canada’s Industry Minister Mélanie Joly said she received assurances from Stellantis that manufacturing jobs would be maintained. “We agreed that we would continue conversations in a positive way regarding EV investments in Canada,” she said.

The production shift follows the U.S. government’s imposition of a 25 % tariff on vehicles that do not comply with CUSMA content rules. While some exemptions are granted based on U.S. parts content, the tariffs are pressuring automakers to reevaluate cross-border production plans.

Flavio Volpe, president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association, said the decision illustrates the impact of U.S. trade measures on Canadian output. He noted that Stellantis appears to be focusing on higher-margin electric variants to balance revenue losses from potential delays.

Alongside the EV launch, Stellantis continues to develop internal combustion versions of the Charger, including the upcoming Sixpack variant. Both the electric and ICE versions are expected to debut on a similar production schedule.

The 2026 Dodge Charger Daytona lineup will no longer include the R/T trim, which has been dropped with production adjustments. The 670-horsepower Scat Pack remains as the sole performance configuration, with customers able to select an optional Track package. At the time of writing this story, Dodge’s Canadian website will only enable a 2024 model year build where both the R/T and Scat Pack are available.
