STLA AutoDrive operates at speeds up to 60 km/h with Level 3 autonomous capabilities in urban environments
System functions during nighttime and challenging weather conditions with advanced sensor technology
Cloud connectivity enables over-the-air updates with potential for expanded speed range to 95 km/h
Stellantis unveiled its first in-house automated driving system today in Amsterdam, marking the company’s entry into advanced autonomous vehicle technology. The STLA AutoDrive 1.0 system enables SAE Level 3 autonomous operation, allowing drivers to take their hands off the wheel and eyes off the road in specific conditions.
System Operates at 60 km/h with Night-Vision Capability
The new technology functions at speeds up to 60 kilometres per hour, maintaining consistent performance during nighttime driving and in challenging weather conditions such as light rain. The system utilizes an advanced sensor suite with automated cleaning mechanisms to ensure reliable operation in various environments.
Ned Curic, Stellantis Chief Engineering and Technology Officer, emphasized the system’s focus on time efficiency: “Helping drivers make the best use of their time is a priority.” When active, STLA AutoDrive manages steering, braking, and speed adjustments while monitoring surrounding traffic conditions.

The system activates through a physical button when appropriate conditions are met, allowing drivers to engage in non-driving activities such as reading or watching movies. At higher speeds, it provides Level 2 and Level 2+ capabilities, including adaptive cruise control and lane centering functions.
Stellantis designed the platform with scalability in mind, enabling deployment across its brand portfolio. The cloud-connected system supports over-the-air updates and integrates real-time data for optimal performance. Future developments may expand the operation to speeds of 95 kilometres per hour and add off-road capabilities for select models.
The technology complies with regional regulations and maintains safety protocols, requiring drivers to remain seated, belted, and ready to resume control when necessary. It also adheres to local laws regarding driver conduct and phone usage restrictions.
STLA AutoDrive represents a key component of Stellantis’ broader technology strategy, which includes STLA Brain and STLA Smart Cockpit platforms, advancing the company’s vehicle intelligence and user experience capabilities.
