Stellantis To Debut All-New Jeep Cherokee Next Year

  • The next-generation Jeep Cherokee should be revealed in 2025.

  • The Cherokee will be part of a three-prong midsize crossover onslaught from the brand.

  • A plug-in hybrid powertrain is expected for the all-new Cherokee.

During the global debut of the fully electric Jeep Wagoneer S in New York City last week, the brand shared a few more details about its upcoming new products, including an all-new Jeep Cherokee.

In addition to presenting the 2024 Wagoneer S Launch Edition and the Jeep Wagoneer S Trailhawk Concept during the media event, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa also said that the brand will launch a trifecta of midsize crossover models within the next year. In about three months, the electric Jeep Recon will be revealed, and sometime next year, another new crossover will appear. Although Filosa didn’t specifically say the vehicle would be called the Cherokee, he did hint that we’ll probably guess what it is. It will be equipped with a combustion engine, likely incorporating plug-in hybrid tech.

As a result, the lineup will offer a trifecta of midsize crossovers: the luxury-minded Wagoneer S, the off-road-focused Recon, and the mainstream Jeep Cherokee. Since the latter’s departure last year, along with the Jeep Renegade’s retirement, the Jeep Compass has been overlapping three market segments all at once, and Jeep’s CEO admitted that the brand is currently covering only 45% of the market. With these new three models and others coming down the pipeline, it should be able to cover 85% of light-truck market segments by 2027.

During the 2024 calendar year, Filosa also mentioned that 4.2 million midsize utility vehicles were sold in North America, with 3.6 million of them in the U.S. market alone. Jeep obviously wants to cash in on that market potential.

In addition to the Jeep Cherokee and the two other new midsize models, a USD $25K Jeep electric crossover is expected to appear in sometime in 2025, as are the Jeep Wagoneer 4xe and Grand Wagoneer 4xe plug-in hybrids. PHEVs have proven successful for the company so far and attracted new customers, as 75% of Jeep Wrangler 4xe deliveries are conquest sales—meaning buyers that are new to the brand—and 50% of Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe deliveries are conquest sales as well.
