The new 2021 Lexus LC 500 convertible is gorgeous, and late.
- The awaited LC 500 Convertible goes on sale next summer
- Superb 5.0-litre V8 is back with 471-horsepower
- Soft top lowers in 15 seconds
- Even more stunning than the beautiful Coupe
We say late because the Lexus LC 500 deserved, from the very onset, to be offered as a convertible. The Lexus LC 500 continues to make heads spin when one is spotted cruising about. Although it was introduced more than two years ago, they are so rare that they never go unnoticed. It also helps that it still looks like a concept car. The new LC 500 Convertible will be just as scarce and so double- and triple-takes are guaranteed.
It’s difficult to apply describe what the Lexus LC 500 is physically other than perhaps stating that it belongs in a sci-fi movie depicting life in the mid-21st Century. The Convertible echo’s the Coupe’s suggestive lines no matter the top’s position.
The Lexus LC 500 Convertible is a glorified GT car. Its suspension has been retuned to handle the added weight brought on by the addition of structural bracing in the name of keeping the driving experience identical to the Coupe’s. Also identical to the Coupe, and thankfully so, is that it will be powered by the superb naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 rated at 471 horsepower at 7,100 rpm and 398 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm.
Combined with the standard 10-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission and RWD layout, the Lexus LC 500 Convertible will sound and feel as good from behind the wheel as it looks.
The four-layer soft-top operates seamlessly (up to 50 km/h) thanks to an innovative folding mechanism that includes a tonneau cover for when it is stored. The LC 500 features neck-heaters for those who love top-down driving in cooler weather and are part of the Lexus Climate Concierge with Upper Body Heating which automatically keep you comfortable.
With an expected starting price between $110,000 and $115,000, the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible is loaded with all the latest and greatest in infotainment technologies as well as safety features.
