Subaru Debuts Three-Row 2027 Getaway EV With Over 480 Km of Range at 2026 New York Auto Show

The new three-row Subaru Getaway EV combines 420 hp, all-wheel drive, fast charging and family-focused interior packaging.

  • Subaru’s new Getaway EV seats up to seven and arrives in late 2026.

  • Dual motors deliver 420 hp, standard AWD and up to 1,588 kg of towing.

  • Long-range models target over 480 km and support 150-kW NACS fast charging.

Subaru has added a new flagship EV to its lineup, replacing the Ascent, with the reveal of the 2027 Getaway, a three-row utility vehicle shown at the 2026 New York International Auto Show. The new model becomes the fourth all-electric vehicle in Subaru’s portfolio after the Trailseeker, Uncharted, and Solterra. The Getaway (great name) is scheduled to reach retailers in late 2026.

The Getaway is positioned as a family-focused SUV, but Subaru is leading the charge into the midsize EV SUV with output and capability. Standard dual electric motors drive the axles for a combined 420 hp, outgunning its non-identical twin, the Toyota Highlander and making it the most powerful production Subaru to date. The capacious vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds, or roughly 0 to 97 km/h, and tow up to 3,500 pounds.

A 95.8-kWh lithium-ion battery will be offered on the long-range version, with Subaru estimating more than 300 miles of range (over 480 km) on a full charge. The SUV uses a standard NACS charging port and supports charging speeds up to 150 kW, which will take the battery from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes. Battery preconditioning is standard. Subaru will also add a standard-range Getaway in 2027 using a 77.0-kWh battery. More details on that version will be released closer to launch.

Inside, the new EV offers seating for either seven passengers with a second-row bench or six with captain’s chairs, depending on trim. Subaru says adults around six feet tall can fit in all three rows. One-touch second row folding and a power-folding third row are standard across the range. Cargo volume is listed at 1,291L behind the second row and 450L behind the third row.

The model keeps familiar Subaru capability cues despite its family-oriented packaging. Standard features include Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, 8.3 inches of ground clearance and X-MODE dual-mode traction settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control are also included.

In the cabin, Subaru fits a 14-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as standard equipment. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, while available features include dual 15W wireless phone chargers, USB-C ports in every row, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a panoramic moonroof, and heated or ventilated seating, depending on trim.

Every version of the Getaway also comes with a full EyeSight driver-assistance package, including adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure alert, and traffic-related assist functions. Higher trims add features such as front cross-traffic alert, intelligent parking assist and a digital rearview mirror.
