The Crosstrek might look similar to the new WRX
Rumours say a new engine could be part of the refresh
The official launch is set for September 15th
Unsurprisingly, the video doesn’t show many details about the styling of the future Crosstrek, but since it is based on the Impreza, it is could look similar to the new WRX.
This means that the front end will be reworked to integrate smaller and more streamlined headlamps, which are seen in the video.
The grille will also likely be different from the current model, possibly by becoming more angular, which is another detail seen on the WRX.
The rest of the exterior design could also take some inspiration from the Solterra, which is the brand’s first electric vehicle. In addition, the taillamps will adopt a sort of square “C” shape once illuminated and the cut-out for the license plate on the liftgate will be shaped to mimic the front grille, as is seen on the new Outback.
No details have been released about the mechanical elements of the new Crosstrek, but rumours say its 2.0L Boxer four-cylinder engine could be replaced by a more powerful and more efficient turbocharged 1.5L engine.
The same rumours also say that the available 2.5L engine will remain available with its 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain is also expected to return but Subaru will need to give it more electric range and perhaps more power in order for it to compete with the other PHEV small SUVs on the market.
The styling and a number of details will be revealed later this month when the automaker goes ahead with the official launch of this new generation of the Crosstrek.
