Tesla Halts Model S and Model X Orders in Europe, Offers Remaining Inventory Only

Poor sales and increasingly competitive alternatives have hurt the ageing Model S and X

  • Tesla ends new Model S and Model X orders in Europe, offers only available inventory.

  • Both vehicles were previously discontinued in China and right-hand drive markets in 2023.

  • Model S and X sales fall behind, grouped as “Other Models” in Tesla’s global delivery reports.

Tesla has discontinued new orders of the Model S and Model X in Europe, limiting availability to remaining inventory depending on the country. The change, reflected across the automaker’s European websites, marks another retreat for the two aging electric vehicles that once served as the company’s flagship offerings and barrier-brakers for EVs.

The American automaker had already ended production of right-hand drive versions of both models in 2023. Earlier this year, it also withdrew the Model S and Model X from the Chinese market. In the Model X’s case, the arrival of the three-row Model Y sealed its fate. With Europe now removed from its order books, Tesla offers the vehicles only in the United States and Canada.

Tesla Unveils the Model Y L, a Longer, Taller, and More Powerful Version

Sales of the Model S and Model X have steadily declined. In Tesla’s delivery reports, the two vehicles are grouped under “Other Models,” along with the Cybertruck and Semi. For the first half of 2025, just 23,275 units in this category were delivered globally, compared to nearly 700,000 deliveries of the Model 3 and Model Y. In Q2 of 2025 alone, “Other models deliveries” were down 52%.

Tesla introduced minor updates to the Model S and Model X earlier this year, including multi-colour ambient lighting and trim changes, along with higher pricing. The fact remains that the Model S has entered its 15th model year with no fundamental changes. No matter if new colours are added or wheels changed, updates of this nature have not resulted in a noticeable increase in demand.

Affordable Tesla EV Is Just a Cheaper Model Y

France’s Tesla website redirects to pre-owned and demonstrator inventories, with only a handful of new models available. Tesla’s German website now directs customers to inventory pages. In short, a new Model S or X cannot be configured online.

This leaves us wondering how much longer these two models will be available as they are in North America, and if Tesla intends to invest in and launch new generations soon.
