Tesla’s Model 3 shined bright last year, outselling every electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle worldwide according to CleanTechnica’s Jose Pontes.
The Tesla Model 3 tallied over 145,000 sales in 2018, well ahead of its closest competitor the Chinese BAIC EC-Series by almost 60,000 units. The Nissan LEAF (87,149 units sold), the Tesla Model S (50,045) and Tesla Model X (49,349) round out the top 5.
Three other Chinese automakers are found in the top 10 along with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (41,888 units sold) and the Toyota Prius Prime (45,686).
According to Bloomberg, Tesla has built over 190,000 Model 3s so far. We’re still far from the 500,000 units per year goal, but it’s getting closer.
