Tesla Model X, S, Other EVs Named to CR Worst Used Cars List

More rough news for Tesla

  • Several EVs made not recommended list

  • Model Y sales plummet in Europe

Things are not going great for Tesla right now. Just off of two big Cybertruck recalls, we almost feel like we’re piling on. But Consumer Reports has just named to of its models as used cars to avoid and sales in Europe are falling fast.

The Consumer Reports Worst Used Cars list is 60 vehicles that have “much worse-than-average” reliability based on the company’s surveys. That means that the data is coming directly from people who actually own the cars.

The list isn’t ranked, but 2019-2021 Tesla Model S and 2018 and 2022 Model X have made the list. They’re not the only EVs on it, with 2021 and 2023 VW ID.4, 2022 Rivian R1T, the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, and pre-2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV all named.

Meanwhile, Automoto has reported that Tesla Model Y sales have dropped 49 percent in Europe to 10,582. That’s a steep drop just months after the model was the best-selling vehicle of all on the continent. The site puts some of the blame on the high sales last year, with some going to the ongoing labour actions in Sweden against the automaker.

The Telsa Model Y remains on Consumer Reports Best Cars of 2024 list, showing that there can be serious differences inside a company when it comes to quality and reliability between models.
